Arriving:

General:

No smoking allowed anywhere in the house.  If you smoke outside please properly dispose of your cigarette butts and ashes.

Driveway is quite steep, feel free to pull on the grass to the left of the garage to turn around or park.

There are three keys, one for the padlock on the garage, one for the deadbolt and one for the door handle.

To lock back glass door, lift up on handle and turn lock simultaneously.  Light switch next to door is for motion sensor light on back deck, unless something is triggering it you won’t know the light is turned on.

Please do not have any fires anywhere except small ones in the fire pit next to the benches.  Please make sure that all fires are fully extinguished.

There are nightlights located throughout the house, feel free to turn on those needed.

There are a few mousetraps in the basement that may be set.

Driveway is on a plowing contract.

There are cleaning supplies located under the sink in the bathroom and the kitchen.

There is a sulfuric smell to the hot water when it is first used after an absence of use.  Once you have run it for awhile it will go away.  There is limited hot water, you may get two showers at a time before it needs about thirty minutes to refill.

Kitchen:

Bring drinking water, some bottled water is sometimes stored in kitchen under counter to the left of the kitchen sink on the bottom shelf.

On stove, do not use dial timer, it will make the stove cease to function.  There is a timer on the microwave that does work.  On stove, to bake, set left two knobs to bake and the other to temperature desired.  Light in stove is a metal push button on front right side of stove.

All the white and red dishes and Tervis glasses are microwavable.

Grill is located in the garage.

Please protect table with placemats, located in drawers to the right of the kitchen sink.

Items left in the freezer may no longer be good, power goes off frequently.

Please do not soak the wooden cutting boards as it will cause them to crack, they may be scrubbed.

To turn on water at kitchen sink, turn on valve (counter-clockwise) under right hand side of kitchen sink, red valve located over white bucket.  Make sure bucket stays under valve as it leaks.

Recipe books are located in the left hand cabinet on the kitchen extension towards the bathroom, Right hand cabinet is a fake door that will crash down on you if you try to open it!

There are dog bowls (sanitized) in cabinet on left side of kitchen sink on bottom shelf.

Laundry:

To turn on the water to the washer, turn lever to on, lever is on the right side of the washer on the wall.  There is detergent and fabric softener on top of the dryer.  For best results set dryer to optimum dry instead of more dry.  Please do not leave dryer running when no one is present at the house.

All beds have fresh sheets on them.  Additional blankets are in the linen closet in the bathroom.  If using the double sized futon, please use either the sleeping bags in the linen closet or there is a double sized set of sheets and comforter in the linen closet as well.

Bathroom:

To connect shower head to tub, reconnect brass fitting on left side and slightly above the faucet, connect evenly or it will leak.  Shower curtain is tricky, need to weight down with shampoo (or conditioner!) bottle on the edge next to the faucet on the granite or water will flood out side.  Also need to watch at back of shower to keep from flowing over back.  If it does drip out please wipe down wooden sides of tub.  Be careful entering or exiting tub from a standing position, it is deep and slippery, stool or sitting down is helpful.  There is a squeegee provided to dry the shower when you are finished showering.

There is a hair dryer under the sink in the bathroom.

Wall heater in bathroom is disconnected and un-usable.

There is an exhaust fan in the bathroom, the switch is on the left opposite the linen closet when you are facing the sauna.

There are towels, hand towels, wash clothes in the linen closet in the bathroom.

There is extra toilet paper and paper towels under the sink in the bathroom.

Garbage bags for bathroom (grocery bags) and for the kitchen (white kitchen bags) are in the Rubbermaid tub under the window in the mud room (future office).

There is a phone, handheld unit must remain on charger for it to continue to operate.  Phone number is 207-695-3194.  Some cellular services will work at the house or if you climb the hill a ways.

Heat/Cool:

The heat is typically left on at 55 degrees Fahrenheit.  Thermostats are located outside bathroom on the edge of the kitchen.  The round thermostat controls the oil, forced hot air heat throughout the house.  It is the one that is left on at 55 deg.  The white rectangular one is the control for the Propane glass stove in the living room.  It is thermostatically controlled and should always have a pilot lit.  Turning down the round thermostat before using the rectangular one will yield better results.  Using ceiling fan will also help circulate the air.  House is on a monitoring system, the white box with antennae on counter near thermostat reports temperatures back to the heating company.
